I´ll tell you something: it was hot. All this week has been really hot, but on Sunday it reached the "oh my God" level. But people where up and running at 8 a.m. nevermind the sun above their heads. They where actually smiling. The reason: it was the first event of the Casco Viejo Friend´s and Residents Association and it targeted one of the main challenges of the community: garbage.

In this case, the idea was to increase awareness about the issue and get the community mobilized. Several government institutions participated of the event as well: the City´s Garbage Department, lead by Eudes (who after his performance on Sunday should be elevated to the rank of local hero), the Oficina del Casco Antiguo and the Institute of Culture.

Retirees, foreigners and locals, and the special participation of the Scouts made the event a success. The results at the end of the day could be easily seen: red happy faces, black dirty shoes covered in unspeakable mudlike material, and several trucks loaded with garbage. A small art workshop was prepared for the young ones, there where hot dogs to celebrate victory along with water and other refreshments.
