Panama Casco Viejo
Casco Antiguo Panama
Real Estate For Sale, For Rent

When Nathan Holtz founder of EarthTrain and Casco Viejo resident told us that Jane Goodall was going to visit Casco Viejo as a special guest on the tenth anniversary of his ngo, I wasn´t sure I believed him. She is a leyend, for anyone who studied biology, and specially chimpanzees, and even anyone who loves nature or who saw Gorillas in the Mist.

Looking at her, somehow I thought she would be taller. Seriously. Or older. But this petite woman with gray hair was an incredible presence that blended a beautiful British elegance with a strange peace of mind and an inner spark... I got the impression I couldn´t pin an age on her. Nor a pattern. To imagine her living in the jungle, to put together such gentle manners with her well known tenacity was quite disturbing.

But there she was, and she opened her speech greeting the indigenous tribes present in the event (Earthtrain works with kuna and embera indians near the Chepo area) but also brought a salute from an even more ancient culture: the chimpanzees. And just like that, she actually did a chimpanzee calling that still gives me goose skin.  No one could hold applause to welcome her and all she represents.

She talked about her current educational work throughout the world, through a program called Roots and Shoots. Hopefully, both ngo´s will be able to partner and strenghten the bridges of knowledge to help both the environment and the cultures that live in the area. I´ve highlighted the links above, please take a moment and explore both organizations.
