Casco Viejo is more than ever connected to the rest of Panama City thanks to the Cinta Costera. The original plans, however, included a piece that would literally connect Terraplen and somehow it didn´t get done during the past administration.

The project has generated controversy as whether this extension would be allowed by the UNESCO regulations. The new government has said publically they´ve been working together with them in order to comply with their guidelines and still be able to build the missing link.

For the past few weeks, we´ve seen movements at the Terraplen area and containers parked at the old Market, preparing for the works. Today, the plans where made public... so here it is!

The project includes 120 underground parkings, basketball fields, green areas, lines of traffic (of course) and an easier connection to the current cinta. Questions regarding circulation and whether they are trully maximizing the potential to provide the necessary parkings to the area remain.

The project is scheduled to be built in different stages:

1. Relocation of all the current activities at the current piers
2. Hidraulic filling for the new multipurpose pier
3. Building of the first stage of the multipurpose pier
4. Construction of 120 underground parkings
5. Second stage of the multipurpose pier.
6. Finalize the parkings, building of basketball fields and place for cultural events (outdoors theatre) . Will build a special wall for the tide, bicicle line, pedestrian area and trees.
