Last night was full of activity. Weird, as it was Tuesday night, not really a night known for having a ton of stuff happening. We had the opportunity, though, to go try "Antar" the new restaurant at Plaza Herrera (taking over from La Comedia) at their soft opening week.
The food was mediterranean with a Lebanese touch: very good hummus with excellent pita bread. Nice rice with almonds and meat and crunchy grilled asparragus. As per the name, I was intrigued... other than Avatar (and they have the same blue for their lights!) I couldn´t make anything out of the name. So I went to Wikipedia and found this:
Antar may refer to:
- Antarah ibn Shaddad, a 6th century celebrated pre-Islamic Arab warrior and poet.
- Antares, the star that marks the heart of the Scorpio constellation and which Arab culture associates with Antar, the warrior-poet.
- Roda Antar is a Sierra Leonean born Lebanese footballer who plays for German club FC Köln.
- Faisal Antar (brother of Roda) is a Sierra Leonean born Lebanese footballer who plays for Lebanese club Al-Mabarrah.
- Antar (Rimsky-Korsakov) is the title of a symphonic suite by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, inspired by the story of the Arab warrior-poet.
- Antar (company), former French petroleum company
- Thornycroft Antar, a British prime mover used by the military and in oilfields, developed in the late 1940s, named after Antarah ibn Shaddad
- Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation, which has the acronym ANTaR.
- Eddie Antar, owner of the Crazy Eddie chain of electronics stores.
- Antar is the name of a planet in the Star Wars universe .
- Antar is the name of the home planet of the aliens in the book series Roswell High and the television show, Roswell.
I think I´ll go with the last one!
But seriously, the food was good and you can sit at the plaza. Welcome to the neighborhood!
