"Despite the global economic downturn, Panama's economy remains strong—the country expects GDP growth of 8% this year, Nordström says, and while work on hotel projects has slowed slightly, construction permits are up 35%, he says." Check out this article from HOTELS magazine... quite interesting!

I`m at my third glass of wine and already dancing! Giovanni, a Sicilian friend who has come to Panama to distribute wine is teaching us all about his beautiful land and the wonderful wine it produces. Of course, after a while, it is not much the difference (at least to me!!!) but it is a joy to enjoy, as they say in Italy "la dolce vita" definately starts with wine and cheese.

Soap operas in Latinamerica are huge. I remember growing up watching all sorts of soap operas, from the funny Brazilian ones (sexy but at the same time with a naive sense of humor) to the more aggresive Mexican or the frankly confusing ( and loooooonnnnnggggg) Venezuelan productions.Panama did not wanted to be left out!

Last Friday a nice article came out at La Prensa by Harry Castro. It had fantastic pictures of one of the most elegant buildings of the time: the old Sociedad Española de Beneficencia. This institution survives today, but they long moved out of Casco Viejo to Hato Pintado. However, from its beginnings, it aimed to help all people in need, from widows to orphans.
